Alma School System:

The Alma School System, School District #2 in Harlan and Furnas Counties, covers 180.5 square miles. It is a Class III, Type K-12 district accredited by the State of Nebraska and the North Central Association under the direction of 6 board members.  Visit Alma Public School's home page.

Educational Service Unit:

Alma is a member of Educational Service Unit #11, which is headquartered in Holdrege, Neb., and serves six counties. Services available include speech therapy, nurses, psychologists, entry year assistance program for teachers, in-service, film, media, consultants in special education, vocations and gifted education, and a cooperative purchasing program.

Colleges/Universities:

Alma is part of the Central Community College which encompasses 25 counties. The area is governed by an 11-member Board of Governors elected by the citizens of the area served. The college maintains administrative offices in Grand Island and operates campuses at Hastings, Grand Island and Columbus as well as practical nursing programs at Kearney, Grand Island and Columbus and Community Education Centers in some 90 other communities in the area.

A learning center is located in Alma and serves the Harlan County area. Off-campus courses (credit and noncredit) are available. Central Community College works with area industries, retail establishments and other agencies and organizations in planning in-service and/or in-plant training programs.

Nebraska has an accessible, high quality educational system of public and private institutions offering curriculum from primary to post-secondary educational experiences. The state has 40 institutions of higher education including 15 technical community colleges. Nebraska caters to non-traditional students and employer-focused training.

Library:

The Hoesch Memorial Public Library, located in the City Park, contains more than 12,000 items and has an average annual circulation of 20,000.  Bookmobile service is available monthly by the Public Library System in Holdrege. Additional materials and services include photocopier, Polaroid cameras, cake pans, public computers, internet access with broad band connections, and a meeting room.
